(xii-782 p.) Présentation : ill., couv. ill. Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-642-29496-9 Note générale : index; p.775-782 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Physique quantique . 05-07 Theorie des cordes Champs, Theorie des (physique) Supercordes Index. décimale : 05-07 Résumé : The purpose of this book is to thoroughly prepare the reader for research in string theory at an intermediate level. As such it is not a compendium of results but intended as textbook in the sense that most of the material is organized in a pedagogical and self-contained fashion.
Beyond the basics, a number of more advanced topics are introduced, such as conformal field theory, superstrings and string dualities - the text does not cover applications to black hole physics and cosmology, nor strings theory at finite temperatures.
End-of-chapter references have been added to guide the reader wishing to pursue further studies or to start research in well-defined topics covered by this book.Permalink : index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=260 Basic concepts of string theory [texte imprimé] / 0, Auteur ; 0 (1916), Auteur ; 0 (1923), Auteur . - , 2013 . - 1 vol. Titre : Disordered materials Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : P.M Ossi, Auteur Mention d'édition : 2e ed Editeur : Berlin : Springer Année de publication : 2006 Importance : 1 vol. (XII-329 p.) Présentation : ill Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-540-29609-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Physique générale . FS 05-01 Physique de l'?etat solide Mat?eriaux amorphes Ordre et d?esordre (physique) Order-disorder models Amorphous substances Index. décimale : 05-01 Résumé : The teaching of solid state physics essentially concerns focusing on crystals and their properties. We study crystals and their properties because of the simple and elegant results obtained from the analysis of a spatially periodic system; this is why the analysis can be made considering a small set of atoms that represent the whole system of many particles. In contrast to the formal neat approach to crystals, the study of str- turally disordered condensed systems is somewhat complicated and often leads to relatively imprecise results, not to mention the experimental and computational e?ort involved. As such, almost all university textbooks, - cluding the advanced course books, only brie?y touch on the physics of am- phous systems. In any case, both the fundamental aspect and the ever wider industrial applications have given structurally disordered matter a role that should not be overlooked. The study of amorphous solids and their structure, stability and properties is a vibrant research branch; it is di?cult to imagine how any physicist, chemist or engineer who has to deal with materials could possibly ignore this class of systems. The author of Disordered Matter – an Introduction uses this course book atthePolitecnicoinMilan,Italy.Collectingthematerialforthecourseproved no mean task, leading him to have to prepare ad hoc didactic material. Titre : Electron-beam interactions with solids : Application of the Monte Carlo method to electron scattering problems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Maurizio Dapor, Auteur Editeur : Berlin : Springer Année de publication : 2003 Collection : Springer tracts in modern physics, ISSN 0081-3869 num. 186 Importance : 1 vol. Mots-clés : Electrons Scattering Monte Carlo method Monte-Carlo, M?ethode de ?Electrons Diffusion Index. décimale : 05-11-10fs Résumé : The interaction of an electron beam with a solid target has been studied since the early part of the past century. Since 1960, the electron–solid interaction hasbecomethesubjectofanumberofinvestigators’workowingtoitsfun- mental role in scanning electron microscopy, in electron-probe microanalysis, in Auger electron spectroscopy, in electron-beam lithography and in radiation damage. The interaction of an electron beam with a solid target has often been investigated theoretically by using the Monte Carlo method, a nume- cal procedure involving random numbers that is able to solve mathematical problems. This method is very useful for the study of electron penetration in matter. The probabilistic laws of the interaction of an individual electron with the atoms constituting the target are well known. Consequently, it is possible to compute the macroscopic characteristics of interaction processes by simulating a large number of real trajectories, and then averaging them. The aim of this book is to study the probabilistic laws of the interaction of individual electrons with atoms (elastic and inelastic cross-sections); to - vestigate selected aspects of electron interaction with matter (backscattering coe?cients for bulk targets, absorption, backscattering and transmission for both supported and unsupported thin ?lms, implantation pro?les, seconda- electron emission, and so on); and to introduce the Monte Carlo method and its applications to compute the macroscopic characteristics of the inter- tion processes mentioned above. The book compares theory, computational simulations and experimental data in order to o?er a more global vision. Note de contenu : Introduction
