Titre de série : Developments in Geotechnical Engineering 54 Titre : Foundations on Expansive Soils Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : F.H Chen, Auteur Editeur : Elsevier Année de publication : 1988 Importance : 463p Présentation : ill Format : 24cmx17cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-444-43036-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Geologie:04 Géotechnique Mots-clés : theory and practice case studies . Résumé : Since the first edition of Foundations on Expansive Soils appeared in 1975, considerable advancements have been made in this field. While most of the research has been concentrated in the area of heave prediction, identification of swelling soil and soil suction, studies on unsaturated soil, finite element analysis and stress modeling have also commanded a great deal of attention. More and more nations are becoming aware of the damage caused by expansive soils and it could be said that more than half the world is affected by swelling soils. As a consulting geotechnical engineer, the author has seen little advancement in the practical application of theoretical approaches towards solving engineering problems. Both geotechnical engineers and structural engineers adhere to the initial concept that by isolating water, the problem can be resolved. Unfortunately, more and more structural failure has been reported. This book provides the practicing engineer with a summary of the state-of-the art knowledge of expansive soils and practical solutions based upon the author's experience Developments in Geotechnical Engineering 54. Présentation : ill, Format : 15,5cm x 23cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-444-01066-7 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Résistance des Matériaux (RDM):04 Théorie d'elasticite, platicite et rheologie Résumé : This systematic exploration of real-world stress analysis has been completely revised and updated to reflect state-of-the-art methods and applications now in use throughout the fields of aeronautical, civil, and mechanical engineering and engineering mechanics. Distinguished by its exceptional visual interpretations of the solutions, it offers an in-depth coverage of the subjects for students and practicing engineers. The authors carefully balance comprehensive treatments of solid mechanics, elasticity, and computer-oriented numerical methods. In addition, a wide range of fully worked illustrative examples and an extensive problem sets–many taken directly from engineering practice–have been incorporated.
Key additions to the Fourth Edition of this highly acclaimed textbook are materials dealing with failure theories, fracture mechanics, compound cylinders, numerical approaches, energy and variational methods, buckling of stepped columns, common shell types, and more. Contents include stress, strain and stress-strain relations, problems in elasticity, static and dynamic failure criteria, bending of beams and torsion of bars, finite difference and finite element methods, axisymmetrically loaded members, beams on elastic foundations, energy methods, elastic stability, plastic behavior of materials, stresses in plates and shells, and selected references to expose readers to the latest information in the field.Advanced strength and applied elasticity [texte imprimé] / A.C UGURAL, Auteur ; S.K FENTSER, Auteur . - 2 éme . - Elsevier, 1987 . - 471 P. : ill, ; 15,5cm x 23cm.

Titre : Bonding Theory for Metals and Alloys Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Frederick E Wang, Auteur Editeur : Elsevier Année de publication : 2005 Importance : 206p. Présentation : ill., Format : 17cmx24.5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-444-51978-8 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Genie Mines et Métallurgie:05 Les Metaux et Alliages/mise en forme, élaboration, traitement physique , traitement chimique Mots-clés : I. Miscibility Gap (MG) between Two Liquid Metals Phase Equilibrium Diagrams Phenomenon of Melting Superconductivity NITINOL A Metal-Alloy with Memory Mechanical Properties Summary of the Bonding Theory. Résumé : Bonding Theory for Metals and Alloys exhorts the potential existence of covalent bonding in metals and alloys. Through the recognition of the covalent bond in coexistence with the 'free' electron band, the book describes and demonstrates how the many experimental observations on metals and alloys can all be reconciled. Subsequently, it shows how the individual view of metals and alloys by physicists, chemists and metallurgists can be unified. The physical phenomena of metals and alloys covered in this book are: Miscibility Gap between two liquid metals; Phase Equilibrium Diagrams; Phenomenon of Melting. Superconductivity; Nitinol; A Metal-Alloy with Memory; Mechanical Properties; Liquid Metal Embrittlement; Superplasticity; Corrosion; The author introduces a new theory based on 'Covalon' conduction, which forms the basis for a new approach to the theory of superconductivity. This new approach not only explains the many observations made on the phenomenon of superconductivity but also makes predictions that have been confirmed.
