Titre : Performance of concrete in marine environment sp 65 Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : V.M. Malhotra, Auteur Editeur : American concrete institute Année de publication : 1980 Importance : 662 p Présentation : couv.ill Format : 23x15 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 8067890 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : SP65 The performance of concrete in a marine environment has assumed importance with the discovery of offshore gas and oil deposits. A collection of 33 papers from 12 countries, which opens with a review of durability of concrete in sea water. This is followed by a series of papers dealing with permeability and physio-chemical studies of cement pastes, mortars, and concretes exposed to sea water. Other papers describe the mechanisms of corrosion of reinforcing steel, case histories of performance of concrete in sea water, accelerated tests, and repair techniques. Research reports cover performance of lightweight concrete in sea water and use of corrosion inhibitors. Note de contenu : Key Factors in Marine PerformanceChloride Ingress: Seawater contains high levels of chlorides that migrate through concrete pores and attack embedded steel reinforcement, causing rust and cracking.Permeability: Low water-to-binder ratios reduce pore space, slow down water and ion movement, and directly improve resistance to aggressive sea salts. [1] (/Freeze-Thaw Cycles: Cold marine climates speed up deterioration because trapped water expands inside the concrete when frozen. Corrosion Protection: Silica fume and slag additions increase electrical resistivity and lower oxygen diffusion, which helps protect reinforcing steel from active corrosion. [1] (/goto? .Résumé : ACI SP-47: Durability of Concrete is a classic collection of technical papers published by the American Concrete Institute that focuses on how concrete performs and resists environmental degradation.Freeze-Thaw Resistance: Explores physical deterioration mechanisms, including hydraulic pressure buildup and the critical role of air entrainment in cement paste and aggregates. Note de contenu : Lowering the water-cement ratio and ensuring proper compaction reduces the entry of water and aggressive ions.Curing Practices: Adequate moist curing ensures proper cement hydration, closing capillary networks that allow chemical ingress.Material Selection: Utilizing blended cements or supplementary cementitious materials helps mitigate specific environmental threats like sulfate attack.
