Titre : Engineering Materials Volume 1, Second Edition : An introduction to their properties and applications Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michaël F ASHBY, Auteur ; David R.H. JONES, Auteur Editeur : Butterworth-Heinemann Année de publication : 1996 Importance : 306 P. Présentation : ill.; Format : 16,5cm x 23,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-7506-3081-8 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Résistance des Matériaux (RDM):01 RDM generale Mots-clés : Price and availability the elastic moduli oxidation and corrosion . Résumé : This book gives a broad introduction to the properties of materials used in engineering applications and is intended to provide a course in engineering materials for engineering students with no previous background in the subject. Engineering disasters are frequently caused by the misuse of materials and so it is vital that every engineer should understand the properties of these materials, their limitations and how to select materials which best fit the demands of his design. The chapters are arranged in groups, each group describing a particular class of properties: the Elastic Moduli; the Fracture Toughness; Resistance to Corrosion; and so forth. Each group of chapters starts by defining the property, describing how it is measured, and providing a table of data for solving problems involving the selection and use of materials. Then the basic science underlying each property is examined to provide the knowledge with which to design materials with better properties. Each chapter group ends with a case study of practical application and each chapter ends with a list of books for further reading. To further aid the student, there are sets of examples (with answers) at the end of the book intended to consolidate or develop a particular point covered in the text. There is also a list of useful aids and demonstrations (including how to prepare them) in order to facilitate teaching of the material. Titre : Engineering Materials Volume 2, Second Edition : An introduction to microstructures, processing and design Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michaël F ASHBY, Auteur ; David R.H. JONES, Auteur Editeur : Butterworth-Heinemann Année de publication : 1998 Importance : 381 P. Présentation : ill.; Format : 16,5cm x 23,5cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-7506-4019-0 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Résistance des Matériaux (RDM):01 RDM generale Mots-clés : Metals ceramics and glasses designing with metals . Résumé : Materials are evolving faster today than at any time in history. As a consequence the engineer must be more aware of materials and their potential than ever before. In comparing the properties of competing materials with precision involves an understanding of the basic properties of materials, how they are controlled by processing, formed, joined and finished and of the chain of reasoning that leads to a successful choice. This book will provide the reader with this understanding.
Materials are grouped into four classes: Metals, Ceramics, Polymers and Composites, and each are examined in turn. The chapters are arranged in groups, with a group of chapters to describe each of the four classes of materials. Each group first of all introduces the major families of materials that go to make up each materials class. The main microstructural features of the class are then outlined and the reader is shown how to process or treat them to get the structures (properties) that are wanted. Each group of chapters is illustrated by Case Studies designed to help the reader understand the basic material.
This book has been written as a second level course for engineering students. It provides a concise introduction to the microstructures and processing of materials and shows how these are related to the properties required in engineering design.Engineering Materials Volume 2, Second Edition : An introduction to microstructures, processing and design [texte imprimé] / Michaël F ASHBY, Auteur ; David R.H.
