Résumé :	Convened by the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO, now the IMO) in London from October 8 to November 2, 1973, the conference resulted in the adoption of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973. The text establishes comprehensive global regulations aimed at eliminating intentional pollution of the marine environment by oil, noxious liquid substances carried in bulk, harmful substances in packaged forms, sewage, and garbage. Because the 1973 Convention faced implementation delays, its technical frameworks and enforcement mechanisms were later absorbed and modified by the 1978 MARPOL Protocol to form the unified MARPOL 73/78 regime.
